10 Ways to Kill Off Your Perfectly Nice Blog

In 2012, Blogging.org interviewed 1,000 US-based bloggers to measure their “success.” They discovered:

  • More than 81% of the people who start a blog never earn $100 from it
  • Only 8% earn enough money blogging to support their families
  • 9% work 4-6 hours every day on their blogs and earn enough money to sustain their lifestyles
  • Less than 2% achieve “freedom” – defined as spending as little as 1-2 hours a day blogging from exotic locations and earning over $150,000 a year

Hmm… Look at that! 8% + 9% + 2% = 19% making money. 81% not making money.

Pretty close to that good old 80/20 rule, isn’t it?

For sure it makes me wonder how many dead or abandoned “zombie” blogs there are (nobody knows).

Doesn’t it make you wonder what the 20% are doing right?

Or does it make you more curious about what the 80% are doing wrong, so you won’t make the same mistakes?

Improve Your Blog With This Amazing Advice

Blogging is the act of posting content to the web in the form of a journal. Your first step to building your own blog is finding a blog posting service, such as Blogger or WordPress, and signing up. This way, you’ll get more from your blog. Continue reading this article for useful information.

Backlinking is a key aspect of bringing in quality readers and improving page rank. If your page is considered authoritative according to Google’s ranking algorithm, it will appear closer to the top of the SERPs. One of the best ways to achieve authority with your blog is having other sites and blogs linked with yours. This is generally referred to as “back linking” in the SEO world. Be sure to get a variety of good backlinks, rather than having lots from one site.

TIP! Have an idea on who your audience is, and go after them. If your audience spends much of their time on social networking sites, then that is exactly where you need to be.

Have a difference to your blog that is not seen elsewhere. Unique and interesting content will help you gain more readers. You’ll get the same result by having information that is hard to locate. Write about a unique hobby or experience. Explain exactly how a widget works. You need to give readers a reason to visit your blog if they are searching for information.

The Hidden Structure Behind Every Successful Blog Post

Online marketers claim that “content is king.”

Content may well be “king,” but on the Web, readability is “holy emperor.”

Your average website visitor spends less than 4 seconds scanning a page before deciding whether to keep reading or click away to the next “shiny thing.”

And if they do decide to keep reading, the same research indicates they really read less than 28% of what’s on the page.

And there you are, killing yourself to become the next great copywriter.

I hate to break it to you, but it’s more than likely that – in spite of your best efforts – people aren’t reading your stuff.

And if they’re not reading your stuff, your blog is just one more lonely voice in the vast wasteland that is the Internet.
