Leadership

A leader instills confidence & helps people become more than they are, they illuminate the path for others to journey forward, farther than they thought possible by themselves…

Whether we know it or not, we’re all leaders, at every moment, everyone around us is watching what we do.

Leadership Traits…

Leadership is not to hold power over others or to inflate our own ego, quite the opposite, I believe the most important responsibility is to cultivate & inspire leadership in everyone around us.

Establish a vision – If you’re going to lead others, choose a destination that’s worth the journey. I’m not talking about money; it’s about making a contribution to people, society, & life. During times of uncertainty, vision keeps us heading in the right direction.

Keep your ego in check – An effective leader is being a servant leader, don’t ask others to do what you’re not willing to do, you are basically there to serve the needs of those you are leading. The flock is not there for the sake of the shepherd, the shepherd is there for the sake of the flock.

Take responsibility – It’s easy to take credit for success, but you also need to take credit for failure as well, learn from your mistakes & move forward.

Listening – This is one of the greatest skills to develop. Good listeners are genuinely interested, convey empathy, & want to find out what’s really behind what the other person is saying. That’s why you have 2 ears & 1 mouth, so you can listen twice as much as you talk.

Go the extra mile – Give more…do more…offer more than is expected, & you’ll both lead & succeed in life & work.

Be a problem solver, not a problem spotter – Anyone can spot a problem, leaders find solutions to solve the problem.

Never settle for average – People who lead are fully committed to whatever they’ve undertaken. Is half a chance better than no chance at all? Is doing a job & only getting half way done enough, NO!

Make the world better for others – Do this by being a generous giver of time, talent, & money. Giving is a critical component of effective leadership.

Lead by example – People are always observing you, people believe what they see & not necessarily what they hear, & action is always louder than words.

Understand that you’re in the people business – People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.

Don’t Quit – Never give up! It’s keeping your commitment & making your actions consistent with your word. It’s all about walking your talk.

Climbing the leadership ladder requires persistence & resilience – It requires sacrifice. You have to give up to go up. The higher you go, the less you can carry & the more trade-offs you have to make. Leaders know the way, go the way, & show the way.

Taking people to the top is more fulfilling than getting to the top all by yourself – Once you’ve taken someone to the top & let them see the view, you’ll never go to the top alone again. Part of your time will be taking other potential leaders to the top.

Are you a leader?
